BLACK SCALE SAISSETIA OLEAE OLIVIERE, SIGNIFICANT OLIVE PEST IN THE AREA OF YUGOSLAV SEASIDE

Abstract:
Olive black scale Saissetia oliviere belongs to economically significant olive pests in the area of Yugoslav seaside. S. oleae has been recorded as much as pest of citrus cultures, especially on Unshiu mandarines and oranges, as well as on other species. It also develops on various bush winter plants of spontaneous flora, and on decorative plants.

In the area of Yugoslav seacoast S. oleae winters in second and third larval stage. After wintering, mainly in spring, the larvae moves to the leaves and juvenile sprouts. During April and May the larvae transform to young females, adulting for depositing the eggs by the end of May and during June. Females lay eggs during June and July, this process lasting even to the beginning of August in som years.

S. oleae on the olives has one generation annually, and in plantation goves in conditions of watering it has also got partia second generation, while on some plants even two complete generations develop,

Its significant natural enemies are parasites Scutilista cyanea and Metaphycus sp. and also predators. S. oleae is also attacked by pathogenous fungus Verticilium lecanii Viegas.
