ISHS Acta Horticulturae 356: II International Symposium on Olive Growing

SUSCEPTIBILITY OF SOME OLIVE TREE CULTIVARS IN MONTENEGRO TO CERCOSPORA CLADOSPORIOIDES SACC (OLEA EUROPEA L.)

Author:   V. Zora
Keywords:   Olea europea, disease, parasite
Abstract:
In 1984, on some new olive cultivars in Montenegro, a new disease of olive tree caused by Cercospora cladosporioides Sacc., was for the first time recorded. Since the introduction of some new cultivars especially for table use is foreseen to be done in framework of the program of olive growing improvement, during 1990, 1991 and 1992, the investigations of susceptibility of 14 foreign and 4 local olive cultivars to C. cladosporioides were carried out.

By the assesment of degree af attack of disease (Paltis - method) the studies have enabled grouping of cultivars by categories depending upon their relative susceptibility. According to this, studied cultivars were classified into 5 categories: very susceptible, susceptible, moderately suscebtible, lightly susceptible and resistant. It was found that among the 18 tested cultivars, the most susceptible was the introduced cultivar Carolea, while the local cultivars showed to be practically immune.
