Abstract:
This work was carried out to investigate microsporogenesis in the cv 'Cassanese' and its possible correlations with the morphological development of the flower, the morphological and cytological observations showed that the tetrad stage is present when the anthers are traslucent and when the petals can be easily separated.
As soon as the anthers become opaque, microscope development is at the uninucleate stage and lasts until the anthers become yellow, but the petals have not yet turned white.
The petals turning white marks the beginning of flowering and the first haploid mitosis that leads to the formation of two nuclei.
