INFLUENCE OF SALTY WATER IRRIGATION ON MYCORRHIZAE OF YOUNG OLIVE TREES IN CONTAINERS

Authors:   C. Briccoli-Bati, R. Rinaldi, C. Tocci, T. Sirianni, N. Iannotta
Abstract:
The trial has been done on two cultivars 'Carolea' and 'Nocellara del Belice' grown in pots and irrigated with salty water. At the end of the experiment, after having performed 35 treatments in the course of a year, the mycorrhizal parameters (F%, M%, a%, A%) and the amounts of P, K, Ca, Mg, Na have been noted in the roots. Mycorrhizal parameters have performed a different behaviour between the cultivars. On cv 'Carolea' the mycorrhizal frequency and funtionality appear reduced with the increase of salinity. Although on cv 'Nocellara del Belice' an increase of the mycorrhizal frequency occurs, its functionality remains unchanged.

A lower content of chemical elements on root tissues of both cultivars has been detected.
