ISHS Acta Horticulturae 356: II International Symposium on Olive Growing

THE OLIVE TREE IN A MONSOON CLIMATE. FIRST RESULTS IN INDIA ON THE PERFORMANCE OF 12 CULTIVARS

Authors:   G. Bartolini, A. Fabbri
Abstract:
The adaptation of 12 italian olive cultivars to a subtropical, monsoon climate was investigated. The paper reports only on vegetative activity. Vegetative growth is virtually uninterrupted for the whole year, four different types of growth rhythms can be seen, that allow to separate the studied cultivars into 4 different groups. The different growth rhythms mean quite different values of shoot length. Only the cvs with prolonged periods of intense vegetative activity show good overall shoot growth.
