ISHS Acta Horticulturae 356: II International Symposium on Olive Growing

PRELIMINARY AGRONOMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF 131 CULTIVARS INTRODUCED IN THE OLIVE GERMPLASM BANK OF CORDOBA IN MARCH 1987

Authors:   C. del Río, J.M. Caballero
Abstract:
Tree and fruit information is given about 131 olive cultivars. 'Habichuelero', 'Zalmati' and 'Dolce Agogia' with its two trees, and other 21 cultivars with only one (*) started cropping the third year after planting time. At the sixth year the trunk cross sections of 'Real Sevillana' and 'Izmir Sofralik' were smaller than 50 cm2. 'Borriol de Castellón'*, 'Chemlal de Kabilye'z, 'Caninese'*, 'Bouteillan'z, 'Uovo de Piccione*', 'Dolce Agogia'z, 'Tanche' and 'Galega' trunks measured more than 169 cm2, with high variation among the two trees in those marked with a z. 'Madural'*, 'Picual'*, 'Bouteillan, 'Genovesa'z, 'Razzola', 'Maurino', 'Morona', 'Habichuelero' and 'Tanche' produced the highest cumulated crops, from 53 to 33 kg. If only more than three crops hihger than 3 kg are considered, 'Bouteillan'z, 'Genovesa'z, 'Morona', 'Tanche', 'Razzola', 'Cipressino'z and 'Zalmati' are the better, with means from 29 to 14 kg. Fruit weight of 'Koroneiki', 'Dolce Agogia,' 'Ouslati' and 'Zalmati' is smaller than 2 g, while that of 'Negrinha', 'Habichuelero', 'Verdial de Badajoz', 'Ocal' and 'Picudo de Fruto Rojo' is the largest, more than 6 g. Flesh/stone ratio is smaller than 5 for 'Cellina', 'Razzola' and 'Grappolo' and larger than 9 for 'Redondil', Changlot Real', 'Verdale', 'Bouteillan', 'Manzanilla de Sevilla', 'Nevadillo Negro de Jaén', 'Redondilla de Logroño', 'Manzanilla del Piquito' and 'Negrinha'. Oil content as percentage of fruit dry matter is smaller than 32% for 'Zarzariega' and 'Manzanilla del Piquito' and larger than 48% for 'Negrillo de Arjona', 'Changlot Real', 'Genovesa', 'Verdilla de Calatayud', 'Nevadillo Blanco de Jaén', 'Redondil', 'Redondilla de Logroño', 'Chorruo' and 'Ouslati'. These fruit records are also based on at least three crops higher than 3 kg.
