MORPHOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL EVALUATION OF OLEA EUROPAEA, L CV. LECCINO

Authors:   G. Bartolini, R. Petruccelli, M. Panicucci, M.A. Toponi, G. Di Monte
Keywords:   cold tolerance, soluble proteins
Abstract:
Six clones of the cv. Leccino have been individuated for their different tolerance to the cold.

We went on to study them with the aim of assuming biochemical elements able to characterize these clones, taking into account also the morphological parameters. The PAGE analyses of the proteins extracted from the internodes and leaves of the six clones help to define a first classification showing diversified patterns for the tolerant and the non tolerant. Through the SDS-PAGE protein patterns these clones have been verified for their tolerance to temperature stress. The biochemical characteristics could appear to be linked to some morphological parameters but not necessarly directly correlated.
