INVESTIGATIONS OF ELAYOGRAPHIC PROPERTIES OF THE OLIVE CULTIVAR ZUTICA (OLEAE EUROPEA L.)

Author:   K. Miranovic
Keywords:   Oleae europea, habitus, leaf, fruit
Abstract:
The studies of autochthonous cultivar zutica have been done at Montenegrin coast, where this cultivar is predominant (64% of trees). The age of olive culture in this area is estimated to over 2000 years, what is whitnessed by an example of investigated cultivar (cv. zutica) in the surrounding of Bar. By its habitus cv. zutica belongs to cultivars of luxuriant growth, it has upright treetop, average trunk height 173.0 cm, branch spreading angle 24.8o. Leaf is short and narrow, flask length 58.2 mm, its width 11.6 mm. Leaf stem is short, 4.9 mm long. The bloom is yellowish-white, with normally developed pistil and stamens, blooms are grouped in clusters, aments, with 8.2 blooms. Fruit is of average size, ovalelipsoid in shape, 20.3 mm long, 15.7 mm wide. Fruit weighs 2.7 g -there are 369 fruits in 1 kg of olives. Fruit contains 48.8% of dry matter, and for its oil contents in raw matter (21.9%) and in dry matter (45.3%) cv. zutica belongs to cultivars with ample oil contents. The morphological and physical properties of cv. zutica are very harmonized. In these properties significant differences among trees from different localities, which would indicate the existence of various forms in the area of its distribution, have not been recorded.
