ISHS Acta Horticulturae 356: II International Symposium on Olive Growing

THE RESEARCH ON POSSIBILITIES OF USING THE SHADED POLYETHYLENE TUNNELS (SPT) FOR THE ROOTING OF OLIVE (OLEA EUROPAEA L.)

Authors:   M. Çelik, M.T. Özkaya, H. Dumanoglu
Keywords:   Gemlik, propagation by cuttings, mist propagation, slow and quick dipping
Abstract:
Olive (Olea europaea L.) cuttings of two types, apical and basal, were treated with IBA or NAA at different concentrations using either the slow- or quick-dipping method and their rooted under shaded polyethylene tunnel (SPT) or under mist. In every case, the rooting percentage of cuttings rooted in SPT was higher than that rooted under mist. In rooting in SPT, temperature was controlled by use of coarse white calico, while during the hottest part of the day, wetted black cloth was substituted. A controlled humidity was maintained by use of a closed system as well during these experiments. While the highest rooting was obtained from the basal cuttings in slow dipping treatments of IBA, there was no significant difference between basal and apical cuttings.
