SOME INTERSPECIFIC AND INTERGENERIC HYBRIDS AND THEIR USEFULNESS FOR THE HEXAPLOID WHEAT IMPROVEMENTS

Author:   Dr. J. Pilch
Abstract:
The material for this investigation contained the interspecific and intergeneric hybrids of wheat T. aestivum L. which were developed and selected during 1983–1992. They were obtained from the crosses of T. aestivum L. with some species of (2×, 4×) Triticum, Secale, Hordeum and Aegilops genera. All hybrids were grown under field conditions. Among the generations F3 - F9, 1183 wide-hybrids representing the different cross-combinations exhibited the high (8–9°) complex resistance to Septoria, Fusarium and Helminthosporium pathogens, the spikes 12.0–18.0 cm long, 22–28 spikelets in the spike, 6–7 kernels in one spikelet and very large and plump kernels. Among them, 1010 hybrids joined 2–5 characters evaluated above.
