LA TENEUR EN CAROTENE DE LA CAROTTE EN ARRIERE SAISON: ETUDE DE QUELQUES FACTEURS DE VARIATION - COMPARAISON DE LA RELATION RENDEMENT/DENSITÉ DE PEUPLEMENT ENTRE DEUX VARIÉTÉS RICHES

Authors:   A. Fleury, J. Roger-Estrade, M. Tremblay
Abstract:
A comparaison of two varieties selected for their high carotene content was made on a broad range of crop densities, proceeding plot by plot.

The results confirmed :

  • the existence of a root size threshold, beneath which carotene content diminishes;
  • the critical of the anatomical separation between the central cylinder (xylem) and the cortical section of the root (phleom) on the storage of a carotene, with major consequences on the sample.

The comparison revealed :

  • the great stability of the contribution by these two anatomical parts;
  • that differences in carotene content from one variety to another may be largely explained by the different develoopmental stages at which carotene is stored.

Controlling crop density is therefore a key factor in meeting carotene content goals. Differences in nitrogenous fertilization had no effect on the range of varieties studied.
