ISHS Acta Horticulturae 354: I International Workshop on Carrot

CAROTTE DE PRINTEMPS: FUMURE AZOTEE RAISONNEE SOUS BACHE

Authors:   J. Thicoipe, D. Berry
Abstract:
Knowing both the dynamics of nitrate transfer involving the carrot and the amount of nitrogen contained in the soil provides a basis for adjustment of the nitrogenous manure applied to carrots.

The use of crop covers modifies the nitrification and leaching processes, although these variations differ with the type of protection used. The most hermetic crop covers allow nitrate savings of 30%, while maintaining the same yield potential and early maturation. This rational approach offers the combined advantages of decreasing the quantities required, reducing nitrate content in commercial varieties and controlling the risk of groundwater pollution.
