COMMENTS ON THE PROCESS OF CHOOSING PLANTS IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE |

| Abstract:
With the advancements of modern computers, the process of choosing plants should be very simple. One has only to press the button for the locality, another button for soil conditions, and one for climate; specify the height, shape, flowering color, and any other important design data. The computer will then provide you with a short list of plants answering these requirements, both in the physical and the design aspects. Before the computer age, landscape architecture offices had manual lists, and a similar process occurred. Inspite of the lists and the computer, which are always of great help, any meaningfull selecting process has the creative element in it, an element which also relates to historical situations and cultural milieu. In this paper I will try to expand on the creative process of plant selection with some historical reference. | |
