PHENOTYPIC AND BREEDING VALUES OF FEW BLACK CURRANT CULTIVARS IN CENTRAL POLAND |

| Abstract:
The research was conducted in 1991 and 1992 on five black currant cultivars (Ben Nevis, Beloruskaya Slodkaya, Consort, Ojebyn and Titania) together with 25 families of their hybrid progenies. The hybrids were obtained as a result of the crossing of the tested varieties in a complete diallel cross design, according to the first Griffing's method, taking into account the direct, reciprocal and self-crossings. Bushes of parental cultivars and their progenies were in their full cropping potency - fourth and fifth year after planting. The following characters were evaluated: morphology (growth habit, growth vigor, shoot strength and size of bushes), phenology (time of flowering and fruit harvesting), crop quality and quantity (yield, fruit size, uniformity of ripening in a strig, "dropping off") and field health status (sensibility to American gooseberry mildew, leaf spot and rust). It was proved that the highest phenotypic and breeding value presents cv. Titania. It demonstrates statistically significant differences and highest positive GCA effects in respect to all tested characters. The significant and positive SCA effects appeared only in few cross combinations, but cytoplasmatic effects were not significant. | |
