Abstract:
This paper reports an attempt to distinguish 15 cultivars of raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) by horizontal starch electrophoresis.
Experiments were carried out on extracts of growing sub-apical leaves and the following enzymatic groups were tested: ADH (1.1.1.1. alcohol dehydrogenase), IDH (1.1.1.42 isocitric dehydrogenase), MDH (1.1.1.37 malate dehydrogenase) and PGI (5.3.1.9 glucose phosphate isomerase). The isozymatic patterns of IDH and PGI allowed five cultivars to be distinguished: "Rossana", "Veten", and "Selez. 1415" with IDH and "Chilcotin" and "Nootka" with PGI. Three other cultivars (Canby, Zeva Rifiorente and Malling Admiral) were distinguished from the combinations of the PGI and IDH patterns.
Moreover, the isozymatic analysis of IDH and PGI allowed 10 cultivars in two groups to be assembled, whereas ADH and MDH showed the same isozymatic pattern in all cultivars tested.
