ISHS Acta Horticulturae 352: VI International Symposium on Rubus and Ribes

EVALUATION OF BLACKCURRANT CULTIVARS IN NORWAY

Author:   A. Nes
Keywords:   Blackcurrant, cultivars, mildew resistance, growth habit, quality
Abstract:
Nearly 50 cultivars and advanced selections of different origin have been evaluated in Norway the last years. Yield, fruit size, time of ripening, phenological and generative characteristics, growth habit and mildew (Sphaerotheca mors-uvae) resistance were recorded and the content of soluble solids analysed. Resistance to mildew and erect growth habit has been especially emphasized, and all cultivars susceptible to mildew or with a spreading growth habit were discarded. The best performance was from the Scottish cultivars Ben Alder, Ben Tron, Ben Tirran and the unnamed selection P10/4/80.
