Abstract:
The introduction of new raspberry cultivars from the British Columbia and HRI East Malling breeding programmes has enabled Australian producers to extend the fresh fruit harvest by several months.
The priorities of the Australian breeding programme are now focused on improvements to yield, fruit quality, shelf life and productivity.
Two cultivars have been produced; "Bogong", tested as A85–24-A7 has been released in June 1993 and "Dinkum", tested as A83–31–G5, will be released in winter 1994. Several elite selections of summer-fruiting, dual-cropping and primocane -fruiting raspberries are near cultivar status.
