TURKISH AND SPANISH HAZELNUT EXPORT SECTORS DEVELOPMENT

Abstract:
Turkey and Spain are the first and third, respectively, hazelnut exporters in the world. During the last two decades Turkish exports have tripled and Spanish exports have been stagnant.

In this paper the most important features of the Turkish and Spanish hazelnut export sectors are analysed. A field survey was carried out in both countries in 1991. The results in each country are tried to link with their export evolution.

Concentration, public market policies, supply sources, product elaboration, packaging, distribution channels, transportation means, information sources, advertising policy, commercial policy, importer requirements, exporters opinion, opinions about future exports and international agreements are explored and compared between about comparative product advantages Turkey and Spain.
