PLANT TISSUE CULTURE EDUCATION AT KRAKOW AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY

Abstract:
The Plant Tissue Culture education programme of the BSc and MSc studies at the Horticultural Faculty in the fourth and fifth year includes lectures of 15 hours and practical training of 30 hours.

Lecture programme contains:

problems of aseptic work
tissue culture laboratory equipment
plant tissue and media preparation
the role of media components and environmental factors in differentiation of tissues (processes of organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis).

The training programme (laboratory) is based on a series of short clonal propagation experiments on different plant groups (orchids, pot plants, ferns, vegetables crops, ornamental bulbous plants, woody plants) using our large collection in vitro.

The education of plant tissue culture includes also the projection of video film "Tissue Culture of Horticultural Crops" made by A. Malodobry and A. Bach as well as 2 visits to commercial laboratories.
