Abstract:
Soil science is one of the cornerstones of a horticultural course without which the fabric of the students education would collapse.
Crop nutrition, soil fertility and soil management are all basic subjects essential for the complete understanding and mastery of plant production.
Despite this, however, the perceived value of soil science by students and some educationalists remains abysmally low and the proportion of time devoted to the subject in the curriculum has been progressively whittled away over the last few years.
This has made it even more important now than ever before for soil science teachers to refine their course content, to make it more relevant and, especially, to engage the hearts, minds and imagination of their protégés, the students.
