EXPERIENCES WITH AN AUTOMATIC WATERING-SYSTEM FOR POT-GROWN VEGETABLES IN GREENHOUSES

Author:   F.W. Frenz
Abstract:
An automatic watering- and fertilizing system for pot-grown vegetables is described. A tensiometer together with a mercury-vacuum-meter, a relay and magnetic valve controlled automatically watering and fertilizing. The waterdistribution into the pots was done by trickle-irrigation. A tomato crop of 6 trusses each plant yielded in summer after 110 days 6. 2 kg/plant and needed 155 1 water mixed with 10. 0 g N, 1.4 g P, 13. 5 g K, 2. 2 g Mg, 7.0 g Ca and 3. 3 g Fetrilon, all given as normal fertilizers.
