ISHS Acta Horticulturae 349: V International Symposium on Orchard and Plantation Systems

PEACH TRAINING SYSTEMS TO IMPROVE MANAGEMENT EFFICIENCY AND TO REDUCE COSTS

Authors:   F.R. De Salvador, C. Fideghelli
Abstract:
Three intensive systems (spindle:1388 trees/ha, bush:606 trees/ha, V shape:1388 trees/ha) and two different propagation techniques (budded trees on peach seedling and own rooted trees "in vitro" propagated) were compared on two nectarine cultivars (Weinberger and Nectaross).

Spindle was the only system with a permanent trellis, requiring a platform or other technical aids to perform some cultural practices (thinning, pruning, harvesting) and needing 6.0% more labour as compared to the V shape and 48% more than the bush system.

Four years after planting the highest accumulated yield per hectare was obtained with the V shape (80.1 t) followed by spindle (66.1 t) and bush (47.7 t).
