| Abstract:
Modern fruit planting is mainly based on small, dwarfed trees, an increase in tree numbers, and higher yields per hectare. Labour input in intensive dwarfed orchards is lower than in traditional ones, especially for disease and pest control, pruning and training of trees, fruit thinning and fruit harvesting. All these factors force us to undertake further efforts for dwarfing of fruit trees. The most common methods of dwarfing are: asexually propagated dwarfing rootstocks, interstocks, growth retardants, and special methods of tree pruning and training. Additionally higher budding for control of vigour of apple trees is used. | |
