SMALL CHERRY TREES ON SOUR CHERRY ROOTSTOCK

Abstract:
On the root suckers of Oblachinska sour cherry have been grafted six cultivars of sweet cherry on the height of 40 cm under the ground. Otherwice this sour cherry is distinguishing with a small vigorous and a high fruitfull. The fruit trees were planted on the distance of 5X3 m and trained as the free spindle. As the control was used Mahaleb rootstock.

Nursery plants after the planting did not been headed, thus untill the curent year creating the spurs and fruit buds by the whole trunk. In the second year those abundantly flowering, but for the misfortune of the strong spring frosts wich largely destroyed the flowers, so the first fruit-full was obtained in the third year. in the sixth year the yield at these trees is amounting from 14,9 to 17,5 kg per tree or from 9,9 to 11,6 tons per hectar.

The diameter at sweet cherry tree is larger for about 40% than the rootstock of sour cherry, and the area of the cross cutting is greater almost double.

The sweet cherry trees on the rootstock of Obla-chinska sour cherry should be plant more dence (4X3m) and could be training low croun in order to pick up from the ground.
