Abstract:
Further studies on the anther culture of strawberry were conducted on the basis of previous experiments.
We detected viruses with the indicator plants of Fragaria vesca, clones EMC and UC-5, and found that not all lines of the anther-derived plants were virus free.
These results were different with that of Sioutac, et al., in which all anther-derived plants were virus free.
We did not find that anther-derived plants of ten strawberry cultivars were polyhaploids.
The chromosome number in root tip cells in some lines varied considerably, and the cells of 2n=56 were in the majority.
The biological characters of the anther-derived were stable in most lines with exception of an off-type line of the cultivar Chang-hong No.1, the fruit of which was soft and mealy and the fruit shape and leaf shape also showed variation.
