ISHS Acta Horticulturae 348: II International Strawberry Symposium

PRODUCTIVE RESPONSE OF STRAWBERRY PLANTS (FRAGARIATI × ANANASSA DUCH.) TO DIFFERENT PLANT GROWTH REGULATOR MIXES IN SPAIN

Authors:   S. Lopez-Galarza, J.V. Maroto, B. Pascual, M.S. Bono
Abstract:
In order to avoid deformed fruits in the early part of the strawberry crop, the influence of plant growth regulators on different productive parameters using different varieties, Chandler, Douglas, Fern and Selva were analyzed over a period of two years (1987/88 and 1988/89). The mixes used were: GNB (gibberellic acid at 50, 100 and 200 ppm; beta-naphthoxyacetic acid at 12.5, 25 and 50 ppm; 6-benzyl-aminopurine at 10, 20 and 40 ppm) and PG (phenothiol at 5 and 10 ppm; gibberellic acid at 2.5 and 5 ppm). The experiments were carried out under a big polythene tunnel.

Higher doses of GNB induced a depressive effect on the plants which reduced yields and fruit weigh, although the percentage of malformed fruits was also less than on control plants.

PG improved the earliness of the crop and slightly increased the fruit weight but did not reduce the percentage of malformed fruits.

No interactions between treatments and varieties were found for any of the parameters studied.
