ISHS Acta Horticulturae 348: II International Strawberry Symposium

DEVELOPMENT OF ALTERNATIVE METHODS FOR HEALTHY PROPAGATION OF STRAWBERRY PLANTS USING CUTTINGS

Author:   J. Dijkstra
Abstract:
Increasing problems with soil borne diseases due to the susceptibility of the standard cultivar Elsanta, the probable reduction of pesticides and the necessity to use recirculating systems for strawberry culture on a substrate in the future, make it necessary to search for propagation methods with very little or no risk for reinfection of plants with soil borne diseases. In vitro culture may be usable if plants are free of variation and directly suitable to produce fruits. Cuttings also can be made and these put directly on a substance. In practice, there is much interest in taking cuttings and growing them.
