| Abstract:
In 1988, nine different Italian Institutions belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, National Research Council, University Departments and the Basilicata Region, started working together in a strawberry breeding program for southern Italy. The aims were to obtain new high yielding varieties with superior agronomic traits adapted to tunnel culture and to alkaline soil with good resistance to nematodes and soil-borne fungi. Resistance to Colletotricum acutatum has been added recently. Among 40 observed selections, six are the most interesting: 82.8.2, 83.18.4, 83.40.1, 86.51.13, 86.75.4 and 86.CNN.3. | |
