Abstract:
Several cultivars were tested against each of eight North American and three Canadian races of Phytophthora fragariae, the cause of the red stele disease of strawberry.
Results show that a differential set of cultivars with respect to red stele resistance could be created based on their resistance (R) genes.
Any differential set should at least contain cultivars like Md-683 (R1), Climax, Redgauntlet, or Sparkle (R2), CPRO-92610 (R3), Del Norte (R4), and Yaquina B (R5), each having only one of the five R-genes, and a universally susceptible cultivar like Blakemore or Senga Sengana.
