FRAGARIA GERMPLASM AT THE CANADIAN CLONAL GENEBANK |

| Abstract:
The Fragaria collection of the Canadian Clonal Genebank is located at the Smithfield Experimental Farm in Trenton, Ontario, Canada. The collection is comprised of 1541 accessions; of these 38 are named cultivars. The remainder are indigenous (North American) species germplasm. The named material was obtained from nuclear sources and is stored under screen. Virus testing is done to ensure virus free status. Species germplasm is grown in field plantings where evaluations for desirable horticultural and genetically distinct traits are done; a backup collection of species material is stored in protected culture. Virus testing of this material has been initiated and virus therapy will be done as needed. Runner plants, in vitro plantlets, and seeds are available for research purposes. | |
