Abstract:
Integrated pest control has been practiced in the Netherlands since the early eighties.
The history of its evolution is described by Schenk and Wertheim (1992).
When, in 1990, international IFP guidelines were proposed in Lana, Italy, the Dutch Fruit growers Association (NFO) formed a committee to draw up Dutch guidelines.
This committee comprised representatives from research, the extension service, the auctions, and growers.
It published the first IFP guidelines for Dutch growers in 1991 and second revised guidelines in 1992 (Gerritsen et al., 1992). The guidelines are supposed to be dynamic, and will be constantly adapted when new knowledge and opportunities for further reduction in the use of synthetic chemicals occur.
