Abstract:
Work on IFP was started in 1989 when a steering committee was formed.
The first edition of the Danish guidelines was introduced in early 1990 and 35 growers took part in the introductory phase.
In 1991 more than 100 growers took part in training courses and attempted to manage their orchards according to the guidelines, and in 1992 about 130 growers received intensive training in IFP. The first marketing of apples and pears with an IFP-label will take place in 1992. Around 25% of the growers, accounting for about one third of the total apple and pear growing areas, have applied for the label.
IFP is organised by The Danish Fruit Growers Union (Dansk Erhvervsfrugtavl). The steering committee includes growers, advisors and research workers from Pomology and Plant Protection Institutes.
The second edition of the guidelines, introduced in December 1991, is largely in accordance with the IOBC/ISHS-guidelines.
Differences regarding the classification of a few plant protection products have diminished with the recent registration of new compounds (diflubenzuron, hexithiazox and glufosinat).
