Abstract:
A survey of production methods in apple orchards was made in the region of Zürich at the end of 1991. About a third of the questionnaires were returned, covering about half of the 270 ha.
The questions ranged from disease and pest problems to control strategies and the equipment used.
In this paper only a selection of the phytopathological problems encountered by followers of the Swiss Integrated production guidelines or by followers of other strategies are presented.
There was no clear difference between followers of the Swiss Integrated Production guidelines and followers of other strategies in either fungicide use or phytopathological problems experienced.
Scab was controlled with approximately 10 fungicide (6.1 DMI) applications.
Overdosing seemed to be a frequent problem.
Lowest scab incidence with the same number of applications was found in the orchards where the farmers followed closely the written recommendations of the cantonal advisory service or the recommendations of the federal research station.
