| Abstract:
Blueberry plants were introduced to Australia in the early 1950's, but commercial plantings did not eventuate until thirty years later. Unfamiliarity among potential consumers and producers and even horticultural researchers, was a major factor inhibiting the establishment of blueberry industry. The first blueberry plantations which were established in the early 1980's were the result of considerable enthusiasm and hard work by individuals - research and extension officers and pioneering propagators and growers. Most early blueberry growers were new to horticulture, some new to farming. The Australian Blueberry Growers Association, one of Australia's first national horticultural grower associations, played a critical role in assisting new blueberry growers in all aspects of production and marketing. | |
