EFFECT OF CLIMATIC CONDITION ON THE FLORAL INITIATION AT THE RUNNER TIP OF EVERBEARING STRAWBERRY CULTIVAR (FRAGARIA X ANANASSA DUCH.).

Authors:   Y. Oda, T. Yanagi
Abstract:
In order to determine the effects of climatic condition on the floral initiation of runner tips in everbearing strawberry cultivar, investigations were conducted to find out the relationship between the number of days after runner emergence and the transformation from vegetative to floral state, and also to find out the effects of air temperature on the floral initiation of runner tips. In the first experiment, the transformation from vegetative to floral state was 100% in all the runner tips observed after the 10th day of runner emergence in 'Summer-berry'. On the 20th day after runner emergence, some runner apical meristems developed into the sepal formation stage. The second experiment showed that at 23°C, floral initiation rates were mostly 100%. On the contrary, it was 0% above 26°C.

From these results, the floral initiation on the runner tip of the everbearing strawberry cultivars was discussed.
