Abstract:
The C.I.V. started its own strawberry breeding program in 1984 to support the nursery and the commercial activity of its associated companies with new cultivars of superior fruit quality and of better adaptability to the Italian strawberry growing areas.
The first three cultivars originated from this program were released in 1989; two of them (Hera and Athena) are suitable for the southern areas and one (Marmolada) for the northern regions.
The most important characteristics of these varieties are described.
