INFLUENCE OF THE TIME OF CANE REMOVAL ON YIELD AND HARVEST DATE OF PRIMOCANE FRUITING RASPBERRIES

Author:   G.J.T. Frith
Abstract:
Raspberry canes of the primocane fruiting cultivar Heritage, were cut to the ground at varying times between the end of harvest and the onset of new cane emergence in spring, to test the casual observance that time of cutting affected growth in the subsequent year. The optimum time to cut the canes was found to coincide with full leaf fall. Earlier cutting in particular, had a marked depressing effect on the time of cane emergence and their final height, and total yield.
