INVESTIGATION OF RELIC PINUS SPECIES. I. THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF PINUS PEUCE

Authors:   M.S. Ristic, Z.J. Samardzic, N.N. Kovacevic, N.R. Menkovic, S.R. Tasic
Keywords:   Pinus peuce, shoots, cones, composition, monoterpene hydrocarbons
Abstract:
For the essential oil obtained by steam distillation from young shoots and cones of relic and endemic species, Pinus peuce, physical properties were determined. Chemical analysis of these oils was performed by GC and GC-MS techniques. According to results obtained, it can be concluded that the main difference between oil samples isolated from shoots and cones, is in the composition of the monoterpene hydrocarbon fraction. The oil obtained from cones is enriched in this fraction (alpha-pinene 45%, beta-pinene 23%, limonene 17%). Contrary, sesquiterpene fraction is much more present in essential oil of young shoots.
