INFLUENCE OF TEMPORARY INTERCROPPING ON THE PRODUCTIVITY OF LIQUORICE (GLYCYRRHIZA GLABRA L.)

Authors:   G. De Mastro, V. Marzi, A. Ventrelli
Abstract:
The influence of temporary intercropping and irrigation on growth and yield in liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) were investigated for four years in Policoro (MT) at the experimental site "E. Pantanelli" of Bari University on a flat, deep, silty-clay soil. Variables were dry and irrigated conditions and different intercroppings with durum wheat and barley harwested at different stages.

Liquorice (cultivated with no intercropping) gave the best results while intercropping showed a detrimental effect on liquorice productivity.

The difference between the rainfeed and irrigated crop was not significant. Remarkable yields were obtained during the four year from the species intercropping.
