AGRONOMICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF HYSSOPUS OFFICINALIS L. FROM VARIOUS GEOGRAPHICAL SOURCES

Authors:   K.P. Svoboda, B. Galambosi, S.G. Deans, E. Hethelyi
Abstract:
Hyssopus officinalis L. obtained from various commercial sources was grown for 3 years in Finland. Yield characteristics, colour, volatile oil content/composition and its antimicrobial quality were studied. For comparison, the Scottish grown hyssop was included in oil yield and quality determination. Description of flower colour given by seed firms was not a reliable indicator of true colour in many cases. There was considerable variation in dry matter yield between different sources. Oil yield production was satisfactory and oil quality was high and uniform. Only one different chemotype was identified, derived from Romanian seed source.
