CULTIVATED AMARANTHUS SPECIES AS FOOD AND MEDICINAL PLANTS: RESULTS AND PROBLEMS IN INTRODUCTION IN HUNGARY

Authors:   E. Mihalik, Z. Szöcs
Abstract:
Some morphological and production characters of Amaranthus edulis varieties and A hypochondriacus has been studied in Hungary. Based on the results the “white” variety of A. edulis seemed to be the most suitable for the further selection. It became clear, that the morphological characters generally used in selection, are not in correlation with seed production in Hungarian environment, so these traits can be used only in selection of the desirable plant habit.
