Abstract:
Hungary occupies the centre of the Carpathian basin.
As to her climate, it is the continental climate that predominates.
Among the approximately 2200 flowering species 16.9 % belong to the Pontusian-Mediterranean-Submediterranaen floristic elements (4). Among them 73 species are member of the Lamiaceae-family, 24 species are considered as medicinal plants. 63 % of the latter are medicinal plants.
Justified by the above fact, the aim of our contribution is to characterize both native and introduced species in view of their prospective cultivation.
