GROWTH AND NUTRIENT CONTENT OF PELARGONIUM GROWN IN CORK OAK BARK SUBSTRATE |

| Abstract:
Cork oak bark, a by-product of the cork industry is a waste material with eliminating problems in South Europe. Cork oak bark has been evaluated as a potting media for growth of seed propagated geraniums. Vegetative growth, flowering and nutrient content of geraniums grown in peat and in mixes with perlite have been studied throughout a three month period after transplanting. Vegetative growth and dry weight of plants were significantly higher in peat than in cork oak bark. Geraniums grown in peat had higher nitrogen content and lower potassium content than the ones grown in cork oak bark. The adittion of perlite to the cork oak bark increased vegetative growth, dry weight and number of flowers per plant, but did not affect N,P and K content of plants. | |
