ISHS Acta Horticulturae 341: IV International Mango Symposium

INFLUENCE OF PACLOBUTRAZOL ON GROWTH AND LEAF NUTRIENT CONTENT OF MANGO (CV. BLANCO).

Author:   H. Werner
Abstract:
Paclobutrazol (PZB) was applied to 1.5 year old grafted mango trees of the Blanco variety. It was applied in different concentrations to the leaves (750, 1125 and 1500 ppm) and to the soil (750, 1500 and 2250 mg/tree). The soil application was the most efficient at reducing: stem growth, increment of plant height, internode length and lateral shoot growth. These parameters were observed with no statistically significant differences at all concentrations. Independent of the method and the concentration, the retardant reduced the size of the leaves. Applied to the soil it induced flowering three months after application. PZB showed an effect on several nutrient contents of the leaves. It increased N, Ca, Mn, Zn, and B but decreased P, K and Cu.
