Abstract:
A comparative trial on the application to 6-year-old 'Zill' and 'Kent' mangoes varieties of three flower-inducing substances generally used in the Philippines was performed at Korhogo (Ivory Coast). It showed that :
- applications of the substances did not change the flowering period,
- potassium nitrate based "Flowerset" increased the number of panicles by 60 %,
- "Miracle Blum Powder" and "Boom Mango Flower Induce", with unknown active ingredients, caused a 15 % reduction and a 10 % increase respectively in the number of panicles,
- "Miracle Blum Powder" had no effect on the production of 'Kent' and a depressive effect on that of 'Zill',
- "Flowerset" and "Boom Mango Flower Induce" caused increases of 30 and 35 % respectively per tree yields in 'Kent' by different pathways (increased flowering in the first case and increased setting in the second),
- average fruit weight of 'Zill' decreased after each treatment,
- only "Flowerset" was effective on both varieties under the trial conditions.
