ISHS Acta Horticulturae 340: XII International Symposium on Horticultural Economics

PLANNING OF CULTIVATION PERIODS UNDER UNCERTAINTY IN POT PLANT PRODUCTION

Author:   S. Ludwig
Abstract:
Plant production in horticulture is characterized by uncertain environmental conditions. In order to support growers in dealing with uncertainty, a model considering risk of pot plant production was built. The paper complements the report presented in LUDWIG (1991).

The model is based on the Chance-Constrained Programming method and provides an optimal production plan considering probability constraints for uncertain variables. The parameters of these constraints represent the decision maker's risk attitude. The model calculations refer to a Begonia crop under glass and focuses on the influence of global radiation on plant growth. Model results for one crop and for a year-round-production are discussed.
