Abstract:
The translocation of nutrients and auxins in strawberry petioles and peduncles was studied by means of radioactive markers (42K, 24Na, 86Rb, 14C, 3H, 137Cs, IAA-1-14C, IAA-2-14C). In both organs IAA is translocated polarly within the vascular system.
In the peduncle of intact plants, both xylem and phloem transport nutrients acropetally, but at the same time IAA is transported basipetally.
The xylem water stream does not interfere with the polar movement of IAA, although it also takes up and transports some IAA.
