ISHS Acta Horticulturae 34: Symposium on growth Regulators in Fruit Production

THE USES AND POTENTIAL OF CEPA IN FRUIT CROPS

Author:   J.R. Sterry
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1973.34.67
Abstract:
Synonymous with CEPA are proposed common name "Ethephon" and registered brand name of Amchem Products, Inc., "Ethrel"® approved name of American National Standards Institute. It has been tested widely on fruit crops. It gives rise to many plant responses including blossom thinning, inhibiting growth, stimulating side branching, increasing flower bud differentiation, accelerating fruit maturity, increasing red colouration in fruit, stimulating fruit abscission, accelerating leaf abscission, and increasing winter hardiness. CEPA is essentially non-toxic, and is being used commercially on certain fruit crops in many countries. Further official approvals and grower usages are being added frequently.
