ISHS Acta Horticulturae 34: Symposium on growth Regulators in Fruit Production

THE EFFECT OF GROWTH REGULATORS ON DEGREENING AND REGREENING OF CITRUS FRUIT

Author:   G.K. Rasmussen
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1973.34.65
Abstract:
Endogenous growth regulators extracted from citrus fruit were related to degreening and regreening of the rind. GA increased prior to regreening and ABA decreased after being relatively high during maturation prior to regreening of 'Valencia' oranges. An unidentified inhibitor increased during maturation of fruit. Applied GA and BA delayed degreening of fruit and increased the amount of regreening. GA and BA also decreased the amount of carotenoid pigments. Carotenoid content of 'Valencia' oranges was not increased by ABA, and SADH had no effect on the degreening of 'Robinson' tangerines.
