ISHS Acta Horticulturae 34: Symposium on growth Regulators in Fruit Production

GROWTH REGULATORS AS AIDS TO THE MECHANICAL HARVESTING OF CHERRIES

Authors:   F. Fankhauser, R. Schumacher
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1973.34.50
Abstract:
CEPA reduced the force required to separate the fruit from the stems of several cultivars of sweet and sour cherry (Prunus avium and Prunus cerasus). However, the decrease in fruit retention force was not always paralleled by an increase in the ease with which the fruit could be shaken from the tree, since this depended also on the formation of separative tissue between fruit and stem. Manual shaking of sweet cherry trees following treatment with CEPA was much more efficient than hand picking.
